Zombie Cookie

A zombie cookie is a type of computer cookie that can come back to life after being deleted. A cookie is a small piece of data that a website saves on your computer to remember information about you.

Zombie cookies are created using something called “Flash cookies”. These are cookies that are stored in a different location on your computer than regular cookies. When you delete your regular cookies, these Flash cookies can still be there and can recreate the deleted cookie.

So, imagine if you had a toy and you put it in a toy box. That toy box is like your computer, and the toy is like a regular cookie. But now imagine there is a secret compartment in the toy box that you didn’t know about. You put another toy in there, let’s call it a Flash cookie. Even if you take out your original toy and put it somewhere else, the Flash cookie toy will still be hidden in the secret compartment. It can then recreate the original toy even if you thought you got rid of it.

Why is it called a zombie cookie? Well, just like zombies in movies, it comes back to life even after it’s supposedly been eliminated.

Zombie cookies can be used by websites to track your browsing history even if you try to delete your cookies. This can be a privacy concern for some people. To make sure you’re protected from zombie cookies, it’s important to regularly clear your Flash cookies as well as your regular cookies.
