Typosquatting Attack

Typosquatting attack is a type of cyber attack that happens when bad actors create websites with slight misspellings or mistakes in the domain names that are very similar to the real ones that people normally use. This is done to trick people into thinking they’re visiting the actual website they intended to visit. However, once the person enters in their login information or other sensitive information credentials, the attackers can then steal this information for malicious purposes, such as identity theft, financial fraud, or further cyber attacks.

For example, if you wanted to visit the website of the popular online retailer Amazon, a typosquatter may create a similar-looking website like “amazoon.com,” which would likely draw in people who accidentally enter the extra “o” in the domain name. This site could prompt you to enter your Amazon login information or even your financial information, assuming you’ll think it’s the official Amazon site.

These types of attacks are dangerous and can potentially cause harm to individuals and companies alike. It’s important to be mindful when entering information onto any website, especially if the domain name looks slightly incorrect or different from what you normally expect.
