Timestomping

Timestomping refers to a technique used in the field of computer security in which an attacker manipulates the modification dates, access times, and creation dates of a file.

This is done to either hide malicious activity or to make it look like an activity happened at a different time than it actually did. For example, an attacker may change the modification date of a log file to an earlier date to make it look like the system was not compromised when it actually was.

To protect against timestomping, it is important to use secure file handling processes and to use trusted security software to monitor and detect any suspicious activity on your computer.
