SSL Stripping

SSL stripping is a computer term for a specific type of cyber attack. This attack occurs when a hacker intercepts traffic between a user’s browser and the server with which they are communicating. This can occur when a user is on a public Wi-Fi network or if they accidentally click on a malicious link.

When the hacker intercepts this traffic, they can prevent the secure connection from being established, giving them access to the data being transmitted. This is because many websites use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to protect their users’ information, by encrypting their communication between the user and the website.

SSL stripping is a type of man-in-the-middle attack that can occur when the attacker is sitting between the user and the website. By doing this, the attacker can stop SSL from being used and trick the user into believing they have a secure connection when they do not.

Once the hacker has de-encrypted the information, they can then use this information to steal sensitive data such as login credentials, credit card numbers, and other personal information.

To protect yourself, always make sure you are using a secure and trusted Wi-Fi network and do not click on suspicious links or pop-ups. Additionally, be sure to use two-factor authentication and strong passwords.
