Replay Attack on IoT Devices

A replay attack happens when someone steals information that is sent between devices and then sends that information again to trick the devices into doing something that they shouldn’t. This is particularly a problem with IoT devices, which are gadgets like smart lights, thermostats, and security cameras that connect to the internet.

An example of a replay attack on an IoT device would be if someone intercepted a command sent from a phone app to turn off a smart light, and then sent that same command later on to turn off the light when the homeowner was away from home. This could allow the attacker to enter the home undetected.

To prevent replay attacks, security measures can be put in place such as using encrypted communications between devices or adding unique identifying codes to each message. It’s important to be aware of the possibilities of replay attacks when using IoT devices and take steps to protect against them.
