Replay Attack

A replay attack is a type of cyber attack where a hacker records a sequence of data transmission between two parties and then replays it back to one or both of the parties again at a later time. This kind of attack is usually carried out in order to gain unauthorized access to a computer network, to steal sensitive information or to perform other malicious activities.

For example, imagine you’re playing a game of catch with a friend, but instead of throwing the ball back to you, your friend records the throw and keeps it for later. Later your friend throws the ball, but instead of catching it, they replay the recording of the previous throw. This is similar to how a replay attack works in the digital world.

To prevent replay attacks, secure communication methods such as encryption, authentication and message validation are used to ensure that the data being transmitted is not duplicated or manipulated in any way. In other words, the data is verified to ensure that it is new and legitimate before it is acted upon.
