Clipboard Hijacking Attack
A clipboard hijacking attack is when a bad person tricks you into copying harmful code onto your computer’s clipboard instead of what you meant to copy. The clipboard is a handy tool in computers that allows you to quickly copy and paste text or images from one place to another. However, if a bad person gains access to your clipboard, they can potentially harm your computer.
Here’s how it works:
-
You copy text or an image to your clipboard as you normally would.
-
A bad person has created a program that monitors your clipboard activity.
-
When the bad person sees that you have copied something to your clipboard, they quickly replace it with their own code.
-
When you go to paste what you copied, you unknowingly paste their harmful code instead.
This could lead to serious problems for your computer, including giving the attacker control over it, stealing your personal information or files, or causing damage to your computer in other ways.
To protect yourself from clipboard hijacking attacks, it’s important to only copy and paste from trusted sources and to make sure your computer has up-to-date antivirus software installed.
